Spanish newspaper, Marca, reports that Pepe Quiles, boss of Kelme, reached an agreement Monday night with Julio de España (President of la Diputacion de Alicante) and Jose Emilio Cervera (representing the Generalitat) in which the three parties will join forces to save the Spanish team and expand its program until 2005.
La Diputacion de Alicante will provide 50 million pesetas and the Generalitat another 165 million pesetas to pay the riders the last two months of their salaries. Kelme is currently seeking another sponsor to help cover the budget until the end of the season.
Hopefully this will put an end to a sour period for one of the most aggressive and fun to watch teams in the pro peloton.
